THOUGHTS ON MY FIRST FLIGHT:
“so first of all, the saying that “the longer you wait for something the more it’s worth it in the end” is so true.”
“I can’t wait for this 10 hour shift to be over & then to wake up tomorrow and go flying. Wow I never thought I’d say those words heh life is crazy.”
“huh, ok, this is happening. This is really happening. I’m going to the airport not for work, even though it feels like it so much..I’m going to fly, ME FLY MYSELF”
“my headset, pens, notebook...I’m so excited I’m pretty sure I’ll forget something, oh well!!”
“ok, we look like we’re stealing this plane. Especially since I got to the hangar first.”
“preflight is really easy when you’ve spent 6 months watching other students do it and wishing you were them.”
“hey, I fit this seat nicely
“oh CRAP HE WANTS ME TO TALK TO TOWER? this is my first lesson only, doesn’t this fall under abuse by CFI? I’m only a tender nugget child”
“yeah abbie that really wasn’t bad. at all.”
“whoa I’m actually taking off right now, my hands are on the yoke. I should be more excited & freaking out, but it feels really right. This feel natural. OH HEH that was easy, the plane basically did it 100% itself!!”
“oops, overshot the pattern. Humility check, thanks God...that needs work in the future for sure.”
“I know this departure, I’ve only seen students & pilots flying it for the past half year.”
Our first flight was pretty uneventful to be honest, it was cloudy & vidbility was low. My CFI (Steve!) was disappointed I couldn’t see more, but I was actually really happy because the clouds were so fluffy and made it look really magical. I felt like I was 8 years old again, it was all so much fun and I was better at it than I thought I’d be. I did the preflight mainly all myself, and Steve said I was his first and only student to be able to talk to ATC completely on my own. You know, one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever had in my life was when an adult told me you couldn’t actually walk on clouds. But today felt like it made up for all that, why walk on clouds when you can fly? 😁
(well actually, not to ruin the dream a SECOND time, but you are absolutely never allowed to fly through clouds either. so basically clouds are the ultimate untouchable frontier, but we flew very near them).
