So I don't know about you, but I think we all have that one dream of "when I finally get my license I'm gonna ________ . "
For me, the fill-in-the-blank was always "take my family to the beach and go camping."
As fates would have it, my dad booked a home this weekend to take the family to. I've always wanted to fly to the coast!
The coast is only about 2-3 hours away driving for us, and by plane it's only about 35 mins.
I want to take my brother and sister with me, the first time I'll be taking TWO passengers! :)
I've started flight planning for it, and I think the weather will be good!

So we set out at around 12 pm. I'm landing at Tillamook instead of the smaller NEhalem Bay, because TMK has a runway that's nearly double the size!

Just kidding.
You know how someimes (all the time) in Aviation your plans get canceled due to weather? Well I ended up driving to Pacific City with my siblings in the truck. I’m glad we did because more of us were able to go, the plane would only have been 2-3 of us that could have enjoyed it. I was a bit annoyed when we got to the beach & THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT, no wind, no clouds, I’m talking 10/10.
But you know what? Part of being PIC is knowing when you gotta just take a car instead. 🤷🏽♀️ I’m not kidding when I say that wording about the weather all weekend would have added stress to my last before-going-back-to-school holiday weekend with my family. I know for more experienced pilots, that sounds stupid maybe. But for me I don’t want to worry about “oh what if it’s too cloudy the morning we’re supposed to leave? Well have to get another house cos my dad and the family will be leaving the other house Sunday.” Or, “what if its raining?”
I can’t control the weather!!
Nobody can, much less on the coast, where Oregon is moody & playful at the same time. 🤗
SO! It was nice to have a family holiday, I seriously de-stressed, & I had lots of really nice walks + runs on the beach in the short 3 days we were there.
And yes, there WAS rain & clouds. The day we left would have been ok to fly I think, but worth the stress? I don’t think so. I feel better planning a day trip that’s not revolving on a strict schedule for back to school, maybe do a Saturday thing. We’ll see. The weather won’t stay nice for much longer, I probably only have about 2-3 weeks left to try to hit the beach but at least I got to drive there!
It was a great (ocean-filled!) summer.
Now it’s time to welcome Fall!
Happy Autumn everybody! 🍂
