Girls In Aviation Day!! (Volunteering & some Mountain Biking 🚵‍♀️)

So some acronyms are catchy, but GIAD makes no sense so I did the full title 😂

I volunteered this weekend! It was awesome to see all these young faces and also scary to realize they look up to me, that made me itchy. (Best way I can describe it) 😂

The day was REALLY great weather for flying, but I’m glad I decided to volunteer instead because I honestly forgot how much I miss volunteering! I brought my younger sister with me too, and I know she’s getting the Aviation bug. I wish I could have gone flying. Today couldn’t have had clearer skies and the sun shone all day.

However, the winds did pick up around 12, right as the event was ending. The 172 I normally fly was in maintenance (again 😅) so when I got home I just did a really fun biking trip with my other sister and my brother! We did some mountain biking on trails and I’m so glad today didn’t rain it was an awesome Saturday.

(It feels really good to have finished ALL my this past Wednesday too yay). I’m pretty sick of having to be on my laptop all the time: except to edit videos which I really enjoy. I texted a pilot friend and we’re hoping to fly together to the beach next week. Then once I go with her I’ll take my family (:

This week was so beautiful because I got to do things I enjoyed AND finished all my homework by Thursday night!

So if I wasn't volunteering Sat morning, I 2000% would have flown. But I remind myself that investing in others is what really matters and the cycles must continue! IF I wouldn't have had awesome ladies to help me out in my beginning baby pilot stages, I wouldn't be where I am today! My PPL CFI Steve stopped by the hangar while my girls were doing a "sectional map scavenger hunt" to say hi. We talked quickly, he was there helping a friend complete his BFR. After the event was over and Annie and I went home (Annie is my younger sister, she's 11!) I went biking with my brother and Becky. Both of them have come flying with me before, I guess you could say our trio is adventure companions because we normally all want to get outside and muck around. And muck around we did, I ignored the fact that I had dirty laundry and a dirty Honda Civic to wash at home and we biked to a butte near our house. A "butte" is basically a hill. We climbed some trees and saw some dogs and field mice and goofed around in the orchard at the top for a little. Then we headed back down and WOW WAS THAT DOWNHILL RIDE FUN:

  • Lots of roots (which are deadly bc they launch you off over the little trails and over the cliffs!)

  • Lots of leaves (but thankfully no mud, bc it's been so sunny lately! Leaves + mud make a killer combo that for sure will launch you off whatever trail you're trying to bike!)

  • Some rocks (ow. but we actually didn't hit any! Nathan my brother almost did tho)

  • So much adrenaline. I think we all got hooked on mountain biking now...hill biking, whatever, same thing when you're as much as a noob as we are.

BUT....a great Saturday. Contrary to popular belief, flying isn't the funnest thing to do on a weekend. One of the top yes! But overall I've realized if I've got my hw done and the idea of my laundry done (in my mind) then I can do anything with some cool people and it makes for a great weekend!

(Lowering standards helps too, I told myself this weekend would be mild, just cleaning my room and errand running, but lookit what happened!)

* real footage of my brother catching air, forget that he was actually riding a road bike *

he did catch air tho, mainly by accident ;)
