Loco for Tacos

Not sure why the taco emoji is of a hard shell taco when those don’t actually exist, but anyway, I FLEW AGAIN.
I realized there’s a pattern. Before flying I’m kinda nervous & unsure & not super confident, but afterwards I always wonder why I doubted myself. Want to know what’s weird about Aviation? The amount of trust required is insane. Or maybe I'm just not someone who trusts’ easily. 🧐
But I took my 3rd passengers today! It was a really good friend of mine, Oksana, and her sister and friend! I decided to go up The Dalles: Operation Mexican food. Shouldn’t be too hard right?
Well what I keep forgetting, even after flying for about 6 months now, is that FBOs (small airports) close after a certain time. Which is fine, but that means everything else in a small town closes early too. But optimistically I was thinking “eh, we can always just walk where we need to go.”
But The Dalles has this bridge that prevents you from getting across to the Oregon side. It’s slow going without some type of car. Oksana and I sluethed (ok, read the signs on the FBO windows) & started calling some numbers.
She truly is a gem that one. Oksana got on the calls & got the FBO manager to come lend us his keys to an old, lovable, dusty, freaky minivan parked out front. “The dash lights don’t work, & be careful with the steering..” he lets us know about it’s many flaws. Or, you could look at them as the key factors to making an adventure vehicle, because either way his baby was gonna get us some tacos.
Or we’d die in the process but surely Oksana can drive well.
Turns out neither of us pilots drove, Oksana’s friend Becky was the boss escape driver who got us to the taco truck in The Dalles and back across the bridge in record time! All driving 1 handed, may I add 😉
On the flight back, I felt really calm & happy. Happy I could be flying with friends, in this beautiful state, in this beautiful weather. It was a night flight on the way back, & I love night flyin bc it’s calm & so special in a really different way from day flying!
We got home safe & excited to go up again. We did have to walk the whole airfield back to our cars, bc the friend owner of the 172 I fly texted me if when we came back we could park it closer to the FBO. 😂 So we did! Got it shoved back & chained down in record time too!
What a night with some awesome people 🤩
